Accutane®
Accutane® (also known as isotretinoin) is an acne medication manufactured by Roche Pharmaceuticals. Accutane® has come under scrutiny by the Food & Drug Administration due to birth defects, and numerous side effects including various gastrointestinal, liver, and central nervous system problems.
The FDA has required Hoffmann-La Roche to change their warning labels on Accutane® many times. It is marketed as a safe acne treatment for minors and adults. Effects of the drug include bone swelling, decrease in lumbar spine bone mineral density, Osteoporosis, Osteopenia, bone fractures, delayed healing of bone fractures, muscle damage (15% of patients develop musculoskeletal symptoms during treatment), tendon and ligament calcification, acquired immunodeficiency, Crohn's disease, Wegner's Granulomatosis, Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Uclerative Colitis, disease of the liver, fatty liver, Hepatitis, Cirrhoses, Hepatotoxicity, rectal bleeding and protrusion of the rectum. Some cases involving depression and suicide have been reported.

Vioxx®
Vioxx® (also known as rofecoxib) is an anti-inflammatory pain medication manufactured by Merck & Co., Inc. On October 30, 2004 Merck voluntarily withdrew Vioxx® from the market because of an increased risk of serious cardiovascular events, including heart attacks, strokes and pulmonary embolism.
