Railroad Crossings
According to the Federal Railroad Administration, railroad incidents claimed over 930 lives in 1999 and 2000. During that same time, non-fatal injuries accounted for another 11,600 victims. (See also National Transportation Safety Board.) To prevent these tragedies, railroads have a duty to exercise due care in makings crossing safe. This may require providing gates, lights and other warnings to motorists. In addition, state or local government agencies may share in this obligation.
As with all personal injury cases, within the first week, important physical evidence can be lost, witnesses may be difficult to locate or even forget important details. In order to protect your legal rights following personal injury or death due to a railroad crossing collision consult a personal injury law firm as soon as possible.
